Police stated that on Saturday night, a man allegedly murdered his pregnant wife due to his extramarital affair in the Madhotal police station area in Jabalpur.
Initially, the accused, identified as Shubham Choudhary, attempted to mislead the police by fabricating the incident as a robbery while they were en route to his wife’s residence. However, during the investigation, it was revealed that Shubham, along with three accomplices, had killed his wife.
Vipin Tamrakar, the in-charge of Madhotal police station, stated, “Following the incident, Shubham filed a complaint. However, upon investigation, it became apparent that he had been engaged in an extramarital affair for the past decade and committed the crime to rid himself of his wife.”
“During the inquiry, inconsistencies were found in Shubham Choudhary’s account. Subsequently, his family circumstances and call records were examined, revealing his relationship with the other woman. He later confessed to the crime during interrogation,” Tamrakar added.
The accused, Shubham, concocted a tale alleging that while returning from a local shrine on Saturday, he, his wife, and their 1.5-year-old child were ambushed by three assailants on two motorcycles who began hurling stones. According to his account, one of the stones struck him, rendering him unconscious. Allegedly, the assailants then attempted to snatch his wife’s ‘mangalsutra’, and when she resisted, they strangled her in front of their young child before fleeing the scene.
