Citizens Protest Alleged Illegal Dog Catching in Chandigarh

A peaceful public protest held on 4th January 2026 at Sector 17, Chandigarh, where concerned citizens raised serious issues related to alleged illegal dog catching practices by the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.

The protest was organised as part of a nationwide movement for the protection of India’s street animals and the humane implementation of animal welfare laws.

Residents and animal caregivers have reported that healthy, sterilised and vaccinated community dogs are being lifted without public notice, registered complaints or due legal procedure, and are being taken to SPCA Chandigarh — a medical treatment facility meant for injured and sick animals, not a shelter for healthy dogs.
