Actress Saiyami Kher, who will be seen playing the role of batter turned bowler in forthcoming Ghoomer, said there is a lot one could learn from the film.
Saiyami Kher was interacting with Newshelpline on the sidelines of a friendly cricket match between Team Ghoomer and the media. Where only the left arm bowling and fielding was allowed.
Talking about the film and message it part with, Saiyami said, “People will learn a lot from Ghoomer, see the backdrop is cricket, but the film is a triumph story, against all odds kind of story. When you feel that you have lost everything, and then you rise from there, and achieve success, of course it happens with a lot of support or a coach, so there is a lot to learn from the movie.”
When asked if she would be interested in attempting her hands at sports biopic, Saiyami said, “Ghoomer is a fictional film, Taapsee has done Mithali’s biopic, even Anushka Sharma is doing a biopic, I think most of players such as Smriti, Harman, are young and they are playing right now, and they should have complete careers, after that I would do their biopic.”
Talking about bowling with left hand in the movie and the friendly match, Saiyami said, “I wasn’t up to the mark today while bowling with one hand. Even my coach Abhishek Bachchan was getting mad at me, and I had to tell him that we shot for the film a year ago. But yeah, while shooting the movie it was fun, I did a lot of practice, but I was a little rusty today, but I guess, after the release, it will be a lot better.”
“I am so happy to do it, this has been the best promotion because we usually don’t do stuff like this, it is very real. I am thankful to media people, who can and played with us, and hopefully enjoyed as well”
Ghoomer is written and directed by R. Balki, starring Abhishek Bachchan, Saiyami Kher, and Shabana Azmi in leading roles. The film revolves around a female batsman, who loses her arm in an accident, but develops a new technique to bowl with her left arm.
The film will premiere as the opening film at the 14th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne on 11 August 2023 and will release theatrically in India on 18 August.
