After a successful debut season, Amazon Prime produced Season 2, further solidifying the show’s popularity. Following a seven-year hiatus, the original cast reunited for Permanent Roommates Season 3.
In this new season, the characters face fresh challenges. Tanya (Nidhi Singh), feeling dissatisfied with her current situation, contemplates leaving the country for new experiences. Mikesh (Sumeet Vyas), secretly resistant to the idea, goes to great lengths to prevent Tanya from making this life-altering decision. The season not only delves into the lives of the main characters but also explores the journeys and issues faced by their parents. Tanya’s father, played by Deepak Kumar Mishra, deals with personal and sensual matters, while Mikesh’s mother copes with the loss of her husband. The series spans five episodes, exploring their quest for permanent residency in Canada and the events that transpire along the way.
Sumeet Vyas shines in his portrayal of Mikesh, maintaining his endearing inner man-child persona with expressive yet often silent and inquisitive facial expressions. The supporting characters effectively complement his performance.
Nidhi Singh delivers a performance marked by ease and emotional depth, portraying her character’s pursuit of career growth while desiring a harmonious relationship with Mikesh.
Sheeba Chaddha’s character as a modern and open-minded mother provides moments of emotional connection, particularly in scenes where she reacts to unexpected developments. Her on-screen chemistry with Sachin Pilgaonkar is heart-warming.
Permanent Roommates Season 3 retains the essence of the original series, featuring familiar characters and comedic scenarios. While not introducing groundbreaking elements, it successfully explores modern-day issues in an engaging and enjoyable manner. The content, at times, may seem repetitive in addressing Gen Z’s concerns, such as the desire to escape monotony and relocate abroad. The ending, where the heroine heads to Germany, might not provide a satisfying climax for all audiences but reflects a common occurrence in Telugu culture where spouses often relocate for work, leaving the family behind.
Overall, Permanent Roommates Season 3 offers a refreshing return to familiar humor, providing a well-rounded viewing experience for fans of the series.
