The conflict between the Harrigans and the Stevensons reaches a violent resolution in Paramount+’s ‘MobLand’ as Harry Da Souza tries to keep everything together in the aftermath of Conrad and Maeve Harrigan’s arrest. The show begins with Kevin still by the side of his abuser’s corpse, rambling on about how much his parents have influenced his life and stymied him, as well as affirming the real deal about Eddie’s parentage. Harry and his crew soon arrive. Harry and Kevin figure out what to do next regarding the future of the family while the others clean up the scene. SPOILERS AHEAD.
The Pieces Begin to Move After Conrad and Maeve’s
Detention In an earlier episode, Harry learned that the Harrigan family attorney, O’Hara Delaney, is the rat whom they’d been searching for. Now, he summons her for a meeting in which he informs her that he has learned about her treachery, but simultaneously he doesn’t do anything regarding it. At least, not yet. He makes sure that, despite all the advancements that occurred for the Harrigans, O’Hara is still in good terms with Richie. Harry and Kevin then sit down together, discussing O’Hara’s treason and its implications on them. Harry is asked by Kevin whether he knew about Eddie and even attempts to inquire if his best friend is cheating on him with his wife.
Harry indicates that he was aware of Eddie since Bella informed him, but it is too absurd to believe that he is having an affair with her. Kevin goes to visit Conrad in prison before they make their next move, where he confronts him for Bella and Eddie. Meanwhile, he also informs his father that the dynamics of power are going to shift now, demonstrating that he will relocate to become the future head of the family. Conrad isn’t pleased about this, but there is nothing he can do from jail. At approximately the same moment, Maeve discovers Eddie, and she informs him that he is Conrad’s son, not Kevin’s. She also attempts to encourage him to act on his feelings by murdering Harry and Seraphina, and he becomes the next king of the Harrigans, whereas she is the queen. Seraphina, in the meantime, receives a call from Kat McAllister, who complimented her mettle, particularly with how things turned out between Jaime. She tells her that she wants to see Seraphina, which is intriguing to the latter since this is the first time that she has finally got the opportunity to make a jump for the control of the family. Alice, on the other hand, sees Colin Tattersall just to receive her money for assisting in the planting of false evidence against Maeve and Conrad. Sadly, she is not allowed to go away with the money since she is murdered.
Harry and Kevin Resolve the Richie Stevenson Issue
It seems that Harry allowing O’Hara to walk away during the last meeting was a strategic move. He calls her to arrange the meeting with Richie, and true to form, she appears at the Sinful Monkey, where she informs Richie that Harry wished to see him, but that would probably be to have him killed. She convinces him that she is with him and wishes for Harry and the rest of the Harrigans to be killed. To ensure him of her loyalty, she calls Harry and invites him to visit her in her office. She informs Richie that Harry will visit the meeting with the majority of her crew, which will leave the safe house occupied by Bella, Eddie, Seraphina, Jan, and Gina alone.
Richie falls for it and deploys half his men to O’Hara’s office and the remaining half to the safe house. Simultaneously, Paul booby-traps a bomb in O’Hara’s office and detonates it with Richie’s men in there. Kiko and Zosia do massive destruction on Richie’s men at the safe house, but Kiko is killed in the process. Jan and Gina are left stunned by the violence before they are returned to the Cotswolds. Kevin and Harry arrive at the Sinful Monkey and surprise Richie. Kevin murders Richie as Harry brings down O’Hara.
Why does Harry decline Kat’s invitation?
Once the Richie issue is taken care of permanently, Harry proceeds to take care of some other matters. One of the things he must do is his outstanding meeting with Kat McAllister. To date, she has done so much for him, which she mentions were done for him and not Conrad Harrigan. After meeting with Jaime, it is apparent that she is very keen on turning him around and is more interested in it after Conrad and Maeve are sent to prison. She views this as a chance to provide Harry with a lifeboat to escape the Harrigan scandal, bearing in mind that they are down right now. In a turn of events, Harry assists Kevin in murdering Richie, which is enough to persuade Kat of his ability and leaves her even more keen on employing him.
Once Harry confronts her, she lays all the cards on the table. She does not mince words discussing the Harrigans and how they are at the edge of the precipice. She expects Kevin and Seraphina to make a move of their own for control of the family, which is already in progress, not surprisingly. She has no doubt that the family will be thrown into deeper chaos and Harry will be caught between them. So, she offers him an exit strategy. She offers to make him kill all the rest of the Harrigans and work for her. This would be a lot of money and influence for him, and it points out the Harrigans as a mere small fish in a very small pond. This appears to be Harry’s best option from an outside observer’s perspective. He will not, however, change sides. Although he is not particularly fond of all of the Harrigans, he is committed to Kevin, who is not only his boss but also his best friend. He tells her that he is not going to leave his companion at this time, given the fact that Kevin is going to make a move so that he can drive Conrad and Maeve away and take over as the head of the family, something that he cannot do without Harry. He will not betray his friend, regardless of where that path is headed.
Having been jilted by him, Kat remarks that this time around, the Harrigans are going to be up against much stronger opposition: hers. Whereas Richie Stevenson was a force, he was nothing in relation to Kat and other strong women like her who are operating in a much bigger game with higher stakes. She has made up her mind to remove the Harrigans from the board, meaning that she is targeting them, period. If Harry is not for her, then he is against her, and regardless of how much she enjoys his company, she will be ruthless with him when she moves. Harry is not intimidated by her threat, though he understands fully the seriousness of the situation and what it would entail to cross her in a battlefield. And yet, he cannot betray what he believes to be his family. But that may change soon enough.
Why does Jan stab Harry?
Once everything is taken care of, Harry has finally returned home and sees Jan and Gina. While his daughter sleeps soundly through the night, his wife is in agony. She has been on edge these last few weeks due to all the commotions with the Harrigans, who have torn her and Gina out of their lives. Though Jan always understood the type of work Harry did, she was also far enough away to turn a blind eye to it. But to witness all this bloodshed before her very eyes, and worse still, for her daughter to witness all this, is disconcerting on many levels. When Harry finally arrives, she brings this matter up with him, but he is his usual stubborn self.
Her husband’s response unsettles her further due to how desensitised he has become to the violence and how easily he has introduced it into her and Gina’s lives. In the middle of this fight, Gina is holding a small kitchen knife with which she accidentally stabs her husband. As soon as she does it, she is surprised and appalled by the act and is afraid that she has murdered Harry. In contrast, he attempts to remain calm, despite the gravity of his wound beginning to show in him. Given that the stab wound does not seem mortal, it is reasonable to believe that Harry will make it through this. If anything, this episode may finally make him shift his focus towards Jan and Gina, and settle their complaints, which he had been ignoring so far, due to his priority given to the Harrigans. Although his wife did not stab him intentionally, this act reiterates her wrath, which she had been suppressing so far. Now that it’s finally dealt with, Harry most likely will attempt to mend fences between the two of them, which must be addressed before things turn from bad to worse as Kat McAllister delivers on her threat of waging an all-out war against the Harrigans.
What Becomes of Maeve and Conrad? Do They Get Out of Jail?
While all of this mayhem goes on with the family on the outside, Maeve and Conrad are still within the prison. Conrad receives an update from Kevin, who also informs him that he is finished following him and his poison and is ready to take the control of the family. Finally, when Richie is dead and Harry informs that he recorded the dialogue between him and Alice when she discussed with him about planting evidence against Conrad and Maeve, it is understood that the pair will not remain in jail for long. Nevertheless, Kevin believes that they should remain there for a couple of days more. This will not only provide him time to consider his next action, but also serve as the punishment his parents desperately require.
Meanwhile, Maeve is playing her own game behind the bars. Once she informs Eddie of his true lineage, he goes after Bella and nearly murders her, too. He is outraged by this information but is also furious with his family for secretly keeping him informed and using him for their own selfish motivations. Meanwhile, Maeve and Conrad also share a tiny conversation, wherein they admit that even though they betrayed each other, they are irretrievably connected. Maeve holds firm and lets it be known that she no longer wishes to labor behind the scenes and must take over as the leader of the family, rather than Conrad. Here, the cards appear to be in Maeve’s favor, particularly with Kevin poised to overthrow Conrad outside the prison. The two discuss how they will escape the prison, but at the same time, it is obvious that even from within the prison, they have enough power to influence the course of things outside. In the final scene, we notice Conrad’s exit among other prisoners who applaud him. This indicates that he is in no mood to bow down and just transfer the control to anyone else, whether his wife or son. He may have resembled a horse with a broken leg, but he still retains the calibre to return to the fight, and perhaps even win it.
This time, however, matters are going to be much worse because each and every one of his family members, including Seraphina, believes that they must be the commanders. Kevin has already begun mobilizing support, beginning with his wife, Bella, who has had enough of his father, now that she has managed to get him arrested on the allegations of corruption. He already has Harry behind him. Meanwhile, Seraphina has Kat’s offer on the table, while Maeve has formed an alliance with Eddie, who has a lot to process, but that has only made him angrier towards his family, giving his not-grandmother the edge she needs. It might have been easier to fight Richie Stevenson, but it remains to be seen how Conrad fights his own family. Read More: Best Adult Shows on Paramount+
