The Stevensons and Harrigans’ war finally erupts into violence in Paramount+’s ‘MobLand’ as Harry Da Souza attempts to hold things together following Conrad and Maeve Harrigan’s arrest. The scene begins with Kevin continuing to sit alongside the corpse of his abuser, babbling away about how much his parents have affected him and stifled him, as well as verifying the reality of Eddie’s parentage. Harry and his entourage arrive shortly afterward. As the others tidy up the scene, Harry and Kevin discuss what they should do next regarding the future of the family. SPOILERS FOLLOW.
The Pieces Begin to Move After Conrad and Maeve’s Arrest
Earlier, Harry learned that the Harrigan family attorney, O’Hara Delaney, is the rat they had been searching for. Now, he summons her for a sit-down where he informs her that he knows of her betrayal, yet he does nothing about it. At least, not yet. He makes sure that with everything that has occurred for the Harrigans, O’Hara remains in Richie’s good graces. Harry and Kevin then sit down together to discuss O’Hara’s betrayal and how it affects them. Kevin questions Harry if he had been aware of Eddie and even goes as far as to inquire if his best friend is sleeping with his wife.
Harry admits that he was aware of Eddie because Bella informed him, but it is too absurd to believe that he is having an affair with her. Before proceeding with their next step, Kevin goes to see Conrad in jail, where he confronts him with regard to Bella and Eddie. Simultaneously, he also informs his father that the power balance will shift now, demonstrating that he will become the next family head. Conrad is not pleased with this, but there is little he can do from prison. At approximately the same moment, Maeve also meets Eddie, and she informs him that he is Conrad’s son, not Kevin’s. She also attempts to get him to make the move by murdering Harry and Seraphina, so he becomes the next king of the Harrigans and she is the queen. Seraphina receives a call from Kat McAllister, who compliments her mettle, particularly how things went down with Jaime. She says that she wishes to meet Seraphina, which interests the latter as this is the first time that she has finally had the opportunity to make a move for the domination of the family. Alice, however, meets Colin Tattersall to receive her money for assisting in planting false evidence against Maeve and Conrad. Sadly, she does not get to take the money with her because she is murdered.
Harry and Kevin Solve the Richie Stevenson Problem
As it turns out, Harry allowing O’Hara to leave the last meeting was a strategic decision. He calls her to arrange the meeting with Richie, and sure enough, she appears at the Sinful Monkey, where she informs Richie that Harry was the one who wanted to meet, but most likely it would be to murder him. She agrees that she is on his side and desires Harry and the rest of the Harrigans to perish. In order to reassure him of her devotion, she calls Harry and instructs him to report to her office. She informs Richie that Harry will report to the meeting with the majority of her team, which will leave O’Hara’s office and the safe house unattended.
Richie falls for the trap and dispatches half of his men to O’Hara’s office and the rest to the safe house. Somewhere else, Paul plants a bomb in O’Hara’s office and detonates it with Richie’s men within. Down at the safe house, Kiko and Zosia destroy Richie’s men, although Kiko pays with his life. Jan and Gina are left in dismay by the destruction before they are returned to the Cotswolds. Meanwhile, Kevin and Harry arrive at the Sinful Monkey, where they surprise Richie. Kevin kills Richie and Harry shoots O’Hara.
Why won’t Harry Accept Kat’s offer?
As soon as the Richie issue is resolved once and for all, Harry gets on with other business. Among his chores is his outstanding meeting with Kat McAllister. By far, she has done him a lot of favors, which she reminds him were done for him and not Conrad Harrigan. After meeting with Jaime, it is apparent that she is greatly focused on winning him over to her side, and she becomes more interested in doing so after Conrad and Maeve are sent to prison. She views this as a chance to present Harry with a lifeboat to escape the Harrigan debacle, given that they are at their worst now. As a surprise twist, Harry assists Kevin in killing Richie, and this convinces Kat of his ability, hence making her more interested in employing him.
Upon facing Harry in person, she lays the cards out on the table. She doesn’t beat around the bush when discussing the Harrigans and where they stand on the brink of disaster. She expects Kevin and Seraphina to make their own move to take over the family, something that, predictably enough, is already planned. She realizes that the family is going to be thrust into even more chaos and Harry will be at the center of it. Therefore, she offers him an escape route. She offers to have him eliminate all the rest of the Harrigans and join her forces instead. This would be far more money and authority for him, pointing out that the Harrigans are a small fish in an extremely small pond. To an outside observer, this appears to be Harry’s best offer. But he won’t budge and switch sides. Even though he is not particularly enamored with all of the Harrigans, he is committed to Kevin, who is not only his boss but his best friend. He informs her that he is not going to leave his mate at this crucial juncture, particularly in light of the fact that Kevin will be making a move to drive Conrad and Maeve out and take over as the family leader, something that he cannot do without Harry. He cannot betray his friend regardless of where that path leads him.
Feeling betrayed by him, Kat makes the observation that this time around, the Harrigans will be facing a much more powerful force: her. Richie Stevenson was a force, of course, but he was not in the same league as Kat and others like her, who are operating in a much larger arena with more at stake. She has chosen to run the Harrigans off the board, and that means she is targeting them, no matter what. If she cannot have Harry by her side, then she will have him against her, and no amount of affection she has for him will save him when she strikes. Her threat does not intimidate Harry, though he is well aware of how serious the situation is and what would happen to him if he did cross her in a battlefield. And yet, he cannot be unfaithful to what he regards as his family. But that could change soon enough.
Why does Jan stab Harry?
Once everything is wrapped up, Harry finally returns home and sits down with Jan and Gina. While his daughter is deep asleep, his wife is in an uproar. She has been on edge the last few weeks due to all the commotions with the Harrigans, who have torn her and Gina out of their lives. Jan always understood what Harry’s line of work was about, but she was far enough away that she could avoid it. But to witness all the bloodshed in front of her very eyes, and worse still, for her daughter to witness all this, is disturbing in many ways. When Harry finally appears, she brings this problem up with him, but he is still his usual self.
Her husband’s response unnerves her even further due to the extent to which he has been desensitised to the violence and the way in which he has easily introduced it into her and Gina’s lives. At one point during this confrontation, Gina holds a small kitchen knife, with which she inadvertently stabs her husband. As soon as she does it, she is appalled and horrified by the action and is concerned that she may have murdered Harry. He, on the other hand, attempts to remain calm, though the intensity of his wound begins to get to him. Given that the stab wound doesn’t appear terminal, it is reasonable to deduce that Harry will be okay from this. If anything, this incident may now prompt him to focus his attention on Jan and Gina, and settle their complaints, which he had been avoiding until now, due to his priority for the Harrigans. Although his wife did not intentionally stab him, the act identifies her rage, which she had been suppressing until now. Now that it is finally resolved, there is a strong possibility that Harry will attempt to mend fences between them, which must be attended to before things deteriorate further as Kat McAllister follows through on her threat of launching an all-out war against the Harrigans.
What About Maeve and Conrad? Do They Escape from Prison?
As all the mayhem happens outside with the family, Maeve and Conrad are inside the prison. Conrad receives an update from Kevin, and while doing so, it is also revealed that he is tired of following him and his toxicity and is willing to take charge of the family. Later, when Richie dies and Harry shows that he had recorded the dialogue he had with Alice regarding the planting of evidence on Conrad and Maeve, it is obvious that the couple will not remain behind bars for long. Nevertheless, Kevin believes that they must remain there for a couple of days longer. This will not only provide him time to reflect on his next step, but also serve as the punishment his parents so desperately require.
At the same time, Maeve is forging her own path behind bars. Once she has informed Eddie of his true lineage, he attacks Bella and nearly murders her, too. He is angered by this discovery but is also angered at his family for deceiving him and using him for selfish reasons. Meanwhile, Maeve and Conrad have a small conversation as well, wherein they admit that though they betrayed each other, they are irreversibly bonded. Maeve holds firm and asserts herself and makes it evident she no longer wishes to labor in the background and needs to be the leader of the family, as opposed to Conrad. Here, the cards appear to be with Maeve, particularly with Kevin eagerly waiting to dethrone Conrad outside of the prison. The two discuss that they will escape from the prison, but it is also evident that even from within the prison, they have such authority that they can influence the course of actions outside. We see Conrad emerging in the final scene along with other convicts with whom other inmates greet him. This indicates that he is not in the mood to bow down and just hand over the command to anybody else, whether his wife or son. He may have been like a horse with a broken leg, but he still possesses the calibre to return to the fight, and perhaps even win it.
This time around, however, things will be a lot tougher since all members of his family, including Seraphina, believe that they must be in control. Kevin is already mobilizing support, beginning with his wife, Bella, who has had enough of his father, now that she has achieved her objective of having him arrested for corruption. He already has Harry in his camp. In the meantime, Seraphina has Kat’s proposal on the table and Maeve has joined forces with Eddie, who’s got a lot to deal with, but that only makes him more angry at his family and helps his not-grandmother get the advantage she requires. Maybe it was easier to battle Richie Stevenson, but one can only guess how Conrad battles his own family. Read More: Best Adult Shows on Paramount+
